As discussed in a previous article, ‘The Impact Of A Product Demonstration’, demonstrations can have huge impacts on sales, customer-brand relations, product awareness, and marketing. What can make or break such an event however, is the product demonstrator themselves.

They, only alone, represent your brand, products, and services. Here are 10 qualities that an effective product demonstrator should possess:

1. Strong Communication Skills:

The ability to clearly and concisely explain the features and benefits of the product is essential. This includes adjusting the presentation style to suit different audiences. For example, a department store crowd of customers would require a different approach to an exhibition with industry professionals in attendance.

2. Product Knowledge:

A deep understanding of the product is crucial. A demonstrator should be able to answer questions confidently and explain how the product works in detail.

3. Enthusiasm and Passion:

Demonstrators should be excited about the product to engage and excite the audience. Passion can help make the demonstration more compelling and memorable.

4. Confidence:

Demonstrators must be comfortable speaking in front of people and demonstrating the product without hesitation, even if they face tough questions or interruptions. We all know how awkward it can feel to watch someone give a presentation when they are clearly uncomfortable with what they are saying and/or doing.

5. Adaptability:

Every audience is different. A good demonstrator must therefore be able to adjust their approach based on customer reactions, audience size, or setting.

6. Patience:

Some customers may need extra time to understand or get comfortable with the product. Demonstrators should be patient and willing to repeat demonstrations or clarify details as needed.

7. Persuasiveness:

While not aggressive, a good demonstrator should be able to persuade potential customers of the product’s value, addressing concerns and highlighting its advantages. As such, many good product demonstrators have direct sales experience.

8. Attention To Detail

Demonstrators must make sure the product is presented accurately and professionally, ensuring every feature is shown and no details are missed. This is especially important for a product safety features and warnings.

9. Body Language Awareness:

Non-verbal cues can convey a lot. A demonstrator should use open and engaging body language to keep the audience interested and comfortable. Passersby may glance over at a demonstration, but demonstrators need to be engaging to keep their attention.

10. Problem Solving Ability:

Sometimes products don’t work as planned during demonstrations. A good demonstrator can think quickly to troubleshoot or handle technical issues while maintaining composure. For example, a technical problem prevents the product from working, what does the product demonstrator do then?
