From a small dingy back room with enough space for 50 people to a huge 90,000-capacity stadium, concerts can take place nearly anywhere, indoor or outdoor. What each concert does rely on, however, is a multitude of staff to ensure the successful, safe, and smooth running of the event.
UK Concerts
Nearly every town and city in the country has regular live music, from buskers and pub singers to O2 academies and large-scale arenas, live music is at the beating heart of many communities- offering atmosphere, like-minded people, and the chance to sing their heart out to some of their favourite songs.
The UK music industry not only makes a huge contribution to British culture but has an enormous economic impact too. The UK music industry as a whole is worth a whopping £5.2 billion, with the live music sector worth approximately £1 billion. Concert-goers will travel around the country, and even the globe, to see their favourite artists, and book their tickets months in advance (due to the pandemic I personally had concerts rearranged several times and eventually saw the artist 2 years after it was originally planned!). Concerts can be unforgettable, special, and significant lifetime events, and that is why the staff who work there are so important!
Next time you are at a concert, think about how many different members of staff you come across. From the people scanning your tickets, security, bar staff, and more! There are many more people involved in a concert other than those who arrive on the tour bus.
Types Of Concert Event Staff
As well as the performing artist, band, dancers, sound team, roadies, and other backstage staff, concerts also rely on a multitude of other concert staff- hired specifically by the venue itself. Push Promotions can supply all of the following types of concert event staff, and have previously done so at various UK venues such as Resorts World Arena, and the Utiltia Arena.
Registration/Ticketing Staff
Registration staff are often the first point of contact for concert attendees who all desperately want to get into the venue quickly. It is therefore very important that registration staff are courteous, well-presented and professional, and able to handle the registration process quickly and efficiently to avoid large queues and pile-ups.
Hospitality / Corporate Event Staff
Hospitality staff help to create a positive and memorable hospitality experience for visitors. They can cover a variety of duties from meet & greets, chaperoning, food and drink services, front of house, and more. They often work with high-profile clients to create a VIP personalised hospitality experience, where they will go out of their way to make their guests happy.
Retail/Sales Staff
As well as sponsorship and ticket sales, concerts make a large amount of money from merchandise. Tour T-shirts, wristbands, sweatshirts, posters, programs, and lanyards are often sold at concerts, and there needs to be somebody there to sell them! Whether selling merch from an outdoor stand, usherette tray, or small store within the venue, sales staff need to be hired to help complete and boost sales.
Leaflet Distributors
Leaflet distributors may be required at concert venues to distribute various leaflets or pamphlets with general information, timings, advertising/sponsors, or something else relevant. They often have distribution targets set that they aim to fufil throughout their shifts. They may also be tasked with distributing goody bags or freebies.
Hosts & Hostesses
Hosts and hostesses can successfully work in many roles throughout an event. These include reception duties, meet & greets, welcoming guests, serving food and drinks, champagne service, event registration, and more. They can also host VIP lounges and VIP guests at various events with the utmost discretion. They are warm, friendly, and make visitors feel well and truly treated, creating a positive memorable experience. Here at Push Promotions, we regularly provide hosts & hostesses to work with Amplify Hospitality at concerts at Birmingham’s Resorts World Arena and Utilitia Arena.
‘Here To Help’ / Directional Staff
‘Here To Help’ staff greet the event’s attendees, answer any questions, and guide people around the venue and to their seats. This role helps with the smooth running of a concert, making sure that attendees know where to go, what to do, and have somebody readily available to ask for help if required. Often they are stood outside the venues directing people to the right entrance, and at various entrances to help direct people to their specific seats.
Food and Drink Servers
Food and drink are a huge part of concerts- popcorn, sweets, nachos, chips, soft drinks, slushies, and alcoholic drinks are all often served in and around venues. Staff are therefore required to run bars, serve food, set up and clean counters/tables, ensure cutlery and condiments are available, and in VIP/hospitality areas perhaps serve canapes and champagne service. Like with merchandise, this may be at an outdoor stand, from a mobile usherette tray, or a food outlet within the venue.
Event managers, data capture staff, brand ambassadors, and more general promotional staff are also available to work at concerts nationwide. To read about specific events that Push Promotions have previously staffed, click here.
